Muffin and the Kelleys : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“There are so many options when adopting a pet,” says Karina. “I love medium-haired kitties and our last one was a tuxedo, so I tend to fall hard for them. Muffin was extremely affectionate at the shelter and we assumed that she would get adopted easily. We then considered adopting Munchkin, another tuxedo, who seemed so sad, but my husband Joel suggested we ask Jenn which cat would have a harder time finding a home. She suggested Muffin because of her health history. So, there was our choice!
“Her adjustment to living with us, though, was very gradual. She had seemed so confident at the shelter. And yet, as time passed, she grew increasingly more comfortable here. Now she makes us laugh every day, flopping on the floor in front of us and daring us to touch her fluffy belly, playing with her toys and always surprising us by doing something new.
“While Muffin has lots of toys, she LOVES her ‘squiggle worm’ wand toy and loves chasing tiny, wool or felt balls around the house. Not to mention going bananas for catnip, which is fun to watch! She happily follows after us rubbing on our legs, waiting for pets, and talk, talk, talking to us. And she’s loved all of our visitors so far.
“She must be near us at all times. She isn’t much of a lap cat, but she has to take naps on the couch behind me when I work from my home office. One day, the mischievous little minx interrupted one of my work calls because she was growling at a reflection of herself. As soon as I realized what was going on, I sent a follow-up email to the other person that ‘no, my cat hadn’t found a mouse, she had found … herself in a reflection!’
“One of Muffin’s silly but endearing habits is chasing her tail. Her favorite place to do this is on our bed when we’re trying to sleep. And, naturally, she sleeps on our bed with us most nights.”
